2013 - Week 26

Week 26 - we are now halfway through 2013. This week brought us our hottest weather yet, the end of June and another busy fun-filled weekend.

Monday got us started off pretty standard. Except, I pretty much thought I was going to melt at work all day. They turn off the air over the weekend and it takes FOREVER to cool back down. I mean DAYS to cool back down. This was the worst I remember in a long time though. Needless to say, it was a long day. We started looking at some local rescue shelters today, looking into the possibility of adopting another dog. We've pretty much settled on a German Shepherd of some kind, but we're still not 100% sure it's the right time yet. We're just going to look into the process and get some information for now, so we'll see! That was pretty much the highlight of our day.

Tuesday was a pretty good day. I've been getting better about getting up on time in the morning. I've been making myself some green smoothies for breakfast, which also helps with waking the girls up. Today, they were up and dressed before I even noticed...it was awesome! And, I've actually been on time...TWO days in a row. This is big folks. I work 7:00-4:30...but I'm more like a 7:15ish starter. I hate it, but with the girls and everything, I just can't seem to get myself up and out the door on time. So, two days in a row is a big deal. The rest of the day was pretty normal. The girls and I spent some time outside after school and then went about the usual...dinner, baths, bed and Breaking Bad! Let the good times roll!

Our Jalapenos are dropping...

Our tomato plant is growing and flowering...

The herb garden is growing like crazy...

The strawberry plant is growing and flowering...

The pumpkin patch is growing fast...

I found a way to get use out of the Keurig I got Christian for Father's Day...but the girls found me...
.

Wednesday was a fun day. A local radio station and subway host a government employee appreciation day every year, and today was that day. They give out prizes and free lunch. It was really humid hanging out at the event, and then it started raining, but it was fun. I got a free unlimited ride wristband for Nickelodeon Universe, and got my mom to get another one, so we're set to bring the girls some day. I started getting a headache, which just got worse throughout the day (I'm guessing the heat didn't help). But, after work, we were off to have a belated birthday dinner with my mom at Applebee's. I started feeling a little bit better...I was able to make it through the "Big Brother" premier before passing out for the night. SO DONE with these dang headaches!

The girls helped me rub out my headache while we waited for Grandma :)

Thursday was another hot one. Our parking lot has been packed with electric company vehicles from all over the place all week, helping get the power back up and clean up after last weeks storms. I feel bad for these poor guys...first they've been working their butts off all week in this heat, then they're stuck staying at a horrible hotel in the middle of the ghetto. Gross. We've continued looking into the dog adoption all week. Tonight I was in contact with one of the rescue companies about a particular dog. It turns out, we'll need to get Chuy fixed before we can do anything. So, my new mission is to find a reasonably priced vet to get that done. That will delay the adoption of a new dog, but we definitely need to get that done anyway. After work was the new usual...a little playtime in the water, some dinner and a quick bath before bed.

Grilling was on the menu for tonight.  Then the rain rolled in. Christian toughed it out though...Dora umbrella and all.

Friday was my day off. Happy day! It was a little chillier than usual today...but that should be temporary. The girls and I spent the day hanging out together. We played in the yard for a while this morning and just hung out around the house. We made a special trip to walmart to get some treats and some household needs. Then, the rest of the day was pretty low key. Lunch, naps, a little TV watching for me. We had dinner when Christian got home and hung out around the house for the rest of the night. A pretty exciting note of today would be that I finally broke down and made an eye appointment...luckily, I was able to get in on Monday so I don't have to wait long. I've had a headache again one and off since Wednesday...not a migraine, thankfully, but just a nagging headache. I've noticed things seem significantly more blurry lately so there has to have been some change in my vision. I'm hoping a new prescription will help with those smaller headaches. Fingers crossed!

Chuy was their prisoner in the clubhouse...

They were like poster children for Walmart today. Olivia in the awesome outfit she put together. Olivia with her juice stains down the front of her shirt and pants. Nice!

Saturday was one of my most favorite days of the year. Game Day!!! Game Day is basically a family reunion on my Dad's side. We all get together at my grandparents house...we eat snacks and bad food all day, have a croquet tournament and play other random outdoor games. The kids all have a blast running around and playing with each other. We all get to let our competitive sides out for the day. It's a great day all around. A few people brought their dogs this year...so Amelia pretty much clung to me for a majority of the day. Poor thing. Christian had to work this morning, so he met us there a little late. I won the big tournament last year...this year, I ended up in the middle of the pack. Christian found himself in the loser game this year...LOL. The day flew by, and was fun as ever. The girls fell asleep pretty much as soon as we pulled away. But, we weren't done yet. We were off to our friends, John and Michelle, to celebrate her birthday. Amelia remained passed out once we got there. We set Olivia up with Despicable Me and she was good to go. Then, spent the night catching up and chatting with our friends. It started getting pretty late, and the movie was over, so we made our way home. What a fun day!

Sunday was another great, fun-filled, packed day. After a quick breakfast and cooler packing, we were off to meet our friends from some strawberry picking. It was the PERFECT day for it too. Last year, we were sweating like crazy it was so hot. This year, was just perfect. We met up with our friends, took the tractor out to the field, and picked away. The season was a little late this year. But, we got plenty of good finds. Once our boxes were full, we were off on our next adventure. Picnic and beach time! We had our sandwiches, had a little treat and spent some time in the lake. The girls were loving it. Little Finley was just busy doing his own thing all day. We cut the day a tad short because our friends are in the process of looking at new houses. So, we made our way home...the girls took a nice little nap while Christian and I relaxed for a while. Then, we were off again. Today was our friend Sara's (Bella's mom) birthday, and they had a bunch of people over to celebrate. They weren't able to get a sitter for Bella, so we brought the girls with to keep them busy. After some dinner, some playtime, some cake and partying it up for a while, we made our way home. What a weekend!

So, there's another week in our lives. We're heading into July, and the second half of 2013 tomorrow. We started off the year with Olivia turning 4. We visited the aquarium and Nickelodeon Universe (a few times). We took the girls to see Sesame Street live and Amelia quickly became potty trained. Olivia started swim classes and has been loving it. We went bowling and spent more and more time with the girls' best friend Bella, and her family. We celebrated Valentines Day - Christian REALLY came through for the first time in years, with a mini rose biush (which, PS, is still doing great and sprouting again) and a trip to the salon, where I chopped my hair off and donated it to Locks of Love. The girls each got their very first haircuts. Olivia and I battled out first ever bouts of the stomach flu. We celebrated Easter...complete with visiting the bunny, dying eggs, Easter service and ice skating, an Easter egg hunt, baskets galore and dinner at the in-laws. The girls battled some crazy mouth disease I've never witnessed in my life. We celebrate Christian's birthday, the big 2-9! We got snow, and snow, and more snow and it never stopped snowing. We got a brief spring in the beginning of April, but it didn't last long. The snow returned, and continued into early May. LONGEST WINTER EVER! We went on our trip to Wisconsin Dells, and had the best time. Until it was time to go home....and I noticed the diamond from my engagement ring was missing. We did replace it, but it was depressing and very upsetting. We went to the circus. Christian and I went on an awesome date night...dinner, playtime at the mall, a movie. It was amazing! We spent lots of snowy days at the park, and swimming in the bathtub, waiting for Spring to finally come. Amelia officially became a pre-schooler. CRAZY! We celebrated Mother's Day...and Christian came through big time AGAIN with a beautiful charm bracelet. I went to my first Twin's Game of the year and we celebrated Teacher's Appreciation Week, and Olivia's final days with the toddler teachers. We were finally able to plant out flowers for the year, which are doing amazing. We also started two gardens, and some pots on the deck - our first ever attempt at planting food. We continued to have some iffy weather for a few weeks, so we pretty much lost our watermelon, cucumbers, cantaloupe, spinach and tomatillos. BUT, our strawberries, leeks, pumpkins, herbs, tomatoes and jalapenos are doing GREAT! I'm calling it a success! Christian and I went to "Star Party", where I got to see Nelly (and a few others)  perform up close and personal - SO AWESOME! Gas prices got out of control, and our Minnesota FINALLY passed the Freedom to Marry act (still so proud!). I dealt with some medical scares, starting with some worsening migraines, resulting in an MRI and a CT Scan and scare of a brain aneurysm, but ending with an all clear. I turned the big 3-0, which I'm still reeling from, and Olivia started Pre-Kindergarten...her final step before moving onto real school. How crazy! We pretty much went right from winter to summer, and we're just enjoying summer to the fullest...playing in the water, family fun around every corner and lots of excitement. This half of the year has just flown by!

Now, let's see what the second half brings.
