Monday started off a little rocky. Olivia was still pretty exhausted, my car was out of commission and I missed my little BFF after she spent the night at Grandma's. Christian drove me to work, and it was a typical, long, busy Monday. I got to leave a little early to get a ride home by my Mom. Christian and the girls hung out at his parents house so he and his dad could work on the car. They are SURE they found the problem this time, and it required a part from the dealership. But, they managed to find it, replace it and get the car up and running. Let's hope this keeps us going for a while now. I still need a good year out of this car! And, it gave me the house to myself for a while - which is always a welcomed event. By the time everybody arrived home, Olivia seemed to be doing much better by the end of the day, no fever or any signs of it. And, Amelia was so excited to see me, it warmed my heart. By the end of the day, life was back to normal, who could ask for anything more?!?
Tuesday was pretty standard. Work went well. Christian is still putting in as much overtime as possible, so it makes for some very long days for him. But, that will all pay off in time, that's for sure. When the girls and I arrived home, we brought out all of our new t-ball stuff and started hitting some balls. They both thought it was pretty cool, so hopefully it's something that will stick. I'd love to see my girls follow in my softball footsteps! I think next payday we'll splurge on a soccer ball and net....gotta make daddy happy too!
Wednesday was a pretty low key day. Work was work, school was school. We had conferences for the girls at school tonight...Christian wasn't able to make it this time with his work being so busy, so it was just me. It was Amelia'a last Toddler conference, just to see how she was doing. Her teachers are sad to see her go. They love her patience and her "teacher's pet" attitude. She's always up for anything, and loves to help out. They are amazed at how well her transition went when she started, and how easily she's transitioning into the Preschool room. They can't believe how quickly she potty trained and how adaptive she is to everything. She's doing great with her letters, numbers and shapes, and has fully mastered everything for her age. So exciting! Olivia is, of course, a shining star in Preschool. Her teacher just loves her and admires her independence. She always listens and is the first to take on any task. She sees everything through and works hard on her projects. She's smart, ambitious and a social butterfly to boot. She loves all of the other kids and plays so well with them. She has also mastered everything at her level, and is very excited about moving up to Pre-Kindergarten next month. I'm so proud of them both - they are little rockstars, that's for sure! After conferences, we stopped at the store. We picked up some "good job" cupcakes to celebrate, and some flowers for Amelia's teachers - a little "going away" gift because tomorrow will be her final day transitioning to the Preschool room. We made our way home, started dinner and baked some cookies for "teacher appreciation week. Finally, we wrote out some "thank you" notes, and called it a night. The girls couldn't wait to deliver all of their goodies in the morning!
Thursday was a big day in Minnesota history. The senate passed the "Freedom to Marry" bill, which will allow same-sex couples to marry in the state. Seeing that just this past fall there was an Amendment up for vote to actually amend the state's constitution to formally ban same-sex marriage (which, thankfully, was voted down), Minnesota has come a long way in just a year or so. Next week the House will debate and vote on the bill, and if passed (which, it is expected to), the Governor has already said he'll sign it into law. Fingers crossed, we'll have equality for all next week! Other than that, today was pretty ordinary. Olivia has some spots in her mouth again - not nearly as bad as the last outbreak, but she's pretty miserable. We're starting to doubt the last "virus" theory, and we're starting to think this might be an allergy thing. We're going to let it play out, and then start tracking what she eats to see if there's any correlation. Poor thing.
Some Beautiful Weather Shots...Before Our Weekend Cold Snap Hits.
Friday turned out to be much more exciting than anticipated. Well, it started off pretty depressing to start - officially entering the last month of my 20's. Wow, it's hard to believe I'll be 30 a month from today. Crazy. Other than that, it was a pretty standard day...the girls were off to my mom's, we were off to work. Ugh, a 5-day work week - hate those! The day at work flew by pretty fast. I took a long lunch and drove out to the KDWB Studio to pick up our Star Party tickets. Can't wait! I got a surprise text from our friend Sara (Bella's mom), asking if I'd like to go to the Twins Game with her. In the end, Christian agreed to come home in time, and watch Bella until her dad got off work, so we could go. So exciting! I rushed to pick up the girls from my mom's, and home to get ready. Sara arrived to pick me up and we were on our way. We got to the game a little before it started, so we grabbed some dinner and drinks, took our seats and settled in. The Twins were up 6-0 at one point, but ended up losing the game in extra innings. Boo! It started raining just as we left the game, so that was perfect timing. In the end, we had a great time. Lots of laughs, a fun game in an awesome stadium (I can't get enough of it!)...a much needed night out. So fun! Christian was on dad duty all night, his friend Lorenzo came over to help out and grill. Everybody survived...Christian and the girls were passed out by the time I got home, so I followed suit.
Saturday was a pretty long, but very fun day. Christian was off to work, so I spent the day with the girls. Well - they spent the morning playing and doing whatever their little hearts desired. I spent the morning cleaning, cleaning and cleaning some more. I attempted to get as much of my weekend chores done today as possible, in hopes of a more relaxing Mother's Day tomorrow. I did have to take a break to run to swim class, but after a quick lunch when we got home, the girls were down for their naps and I finished up my cleaning. I didn't get a chance to tackle the basement, but at least I got the main level clean and ready for visitors. When Christian arrived home from work, we watched a little TV together, and then got ready for the evening. After naps, we were off to my best friends house for a "long time no see" BBQ with her husband and son, and another family. I'd been battling a headache all day, but I was way too excited to hangout and catch up to pass up on the opportunity. The other family had 3 little boys and the girls had a BLAST playing with all of the boys. They were in heaven. The men grilled, drank some beer and hung out. We mom's chatted around the kitchen table, laughing and swapping mom stories. It was truly a perfect evening, something I wish could happen WAY more often! We finally made our way home, way, WAY past bedtime, and the girls went right down. Christian and I caught some Saturday Night Live and passed out ourselves. What a great day!
I didn't take any pictures tonight, but I snapped this one of the girls, sporting the boys' nerf gun glasses. Too funny.
Sunday was Mother's Day. And, it was truly an amazing Mother's Day at that...by far, the best one yet. Christian brought the girls downstairs as soon as they woke up, so I got to sleep in a little. When I woke up, the girls came running upstairs, and presented me with some homemade cards they'd made with Christian. They were so excited, it was too cute. Then, Christian surprised me with a beautiful charm bracelet, with a mom and child pendant on it. I've wanted a charm bracelet for every, I just love it! He made me my favorite breakfast, chorizo and eggs with beans on the side. YUM! After breakfast, Christian was off to the store to pick up some flowers for his mom, and surprised me with a bouquet of my own. WOW! When he was done, I made a run to the grocery store with Olivia to pick up Mother's Day BBQ necessities, and got my mom an orchid while I was out. The girls napped when we got home, and Christian and I got ready for the evening. We started prepping for the BBQ, our parents and friends started showing up, the girls were up from their nap, and it was time for relaxing, playing and catching up with everybody. It was such a great evening, just what we all needed. It was really a great cap on a wonderful week, that's for sure!
So, there's another week of our lives. Until next week!
