3/3/12

Today was kind of a rough day. Christian was working some overtime this morning, so it was just the girls and I. Olivia was up at 4:00AM, complaining that her eye hurt, and never really slept well after that. Both girls were up for the day by 6:30, and I was feeling the worst yet. Olivia continued complaining about her ears, and with the way I was feeling, I figured we both might as well make a trip into Urgent Care to get checked out.

It was a difficult morning for me. The girls were pretty much crying and whining the entire morning. Nothing I did made them happy - they were exhausted, in pain - Olivia with her ear, Amelia with her teeth, and just in bad moods. They weren't listening to anything I said or cooperating at all. I got them settled into their chairs for a somewhat late breakfast (because they wouldn't cooperate with me up to that point), and I ended up locking myself in my room to have a little scream and cry myself. I hate to admit that, it seems completely ridiculous to say outloud, but I didn't feel like I had any other option at that point. I finally pulled myself together, and we all ate breakfast. Things calmed down for a little while, but started right back up maybe 30 minutes later. So, it was off for naps, for both of them. WAY early compared to their usual nap time, but much needed. Thankfully, they took a standard, long nap. Waking up shortly after Christian arrived home from work.

He handled their lunch when they woke up, and then Olivia and I were off to Urgent Care. She did indeed have an ear infection, so I picked up some meds for her at the pharmacy. Unfortunately for me, I just have the standard, really crappy common cold. No strep, no ear infection and nothing they can do for me. As for my eye - I simply have a stye - again, nothing they can do for me. What I wouldn't give to have something that can actually be treated! The eye stuff sucks too. No makeup and no contacts until it heals....no makeup, in the real world? I think not. And, no contacts would be fine - if my glasses weren't broken and 3 prescriptions out of date! Ugh. Warm compress as much as possible this weekend, that's for sure.

Olivia and I stopped into Target after the appointments to grab some more over the counter medication for me. Then, it was home to do a little light cleaning, and get ready for tonights events. Shortly after I arrived home, my Dad stopped over to help us out. Tonight "we" - really, me not included at all - pulled up the carpet in the basement. We had to move all of the furniture and stuff out of the living area. Christian is going to clean up the floor, bleach it and seal it over the week now that the carpet is up. It's probably not TOTALLY necessary, but the smell down there was SO bad, we just have to do everything we can to make sure it doesn't come back.

My Dad hung around to chat, watch a little Wipeout and eat some dinner before taking off. Then, the girls were off to bed, and Christian and I were literally right behind them. EXHAUSTED! Here are some pictures of tonights floor work.

3/2/12

Friday. Today was another rough day. I did have much more of a voice today, so that was helpful. But, I definitely wasn't feeling well. I was very hot and a little loopy all day. My eyes were watery and itchy. One of them was hurting REALLY bad, felt like the whole thing was bruised. By the end of the night, I was checking it out in the mirror and noticed a little bump on the bottom lid of my eye. After looking it up, I'm thinking that I have a stye in that eye - but I suppose I'll have to get it checked out to make sure. I swear, it's never ending. Every day it's something new!

Work actually went pretty fast for feeling so crappy. I got caught up on a bunch of stuff, and had a long meeting that took up a good portion of the day. Before I knew it, I was off to pick up the girls and head home. My mom said Olivia was pretty difficult and crabby today. They weren't super happy the rest of the night either. Christian picked up some dinner on his way home, and the girls were off to bed shortly after eating. Christian has to work early in the morning, so it was a pretty early night for us as well. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

One piece of good news...I weight in this morning, and was down another pound! Even though I've felt so horrible, and haven't been able to get in much exercise. So, that's brings to me losing 11.6 pounds in just under 2 months - I'm pretty happy with that. Lord knows I'd love for it to melt off faster than that - but with working full time, two young toddlers and a house to take care of - I think I'm doing pretty good!

Tonight I got home to a bunch of fun surprises. I think the mailman must have really hated me today, because a bunch of my freebies/samples came today ;) This is why I love getting the mail...my obsession...

3/1/12

It's March! How can that be! Maybe since we didn't really have much of a winter it just seems like time is flying by.

Well, another day in the life of the sick. Today, the girls seemed a little better. They were both off to school - pretty tired, but Olivia was actually happy to be there, so that was better. I on the other hand, was my worst yet. I really could barely talk today, it wasn't good. I don't know what is going on, but it is definitely not pretty. Unfortunately, after depleting my leave time when I had Amelia, and random sicknesses between myself and the girls since, I just haven't been able to build up a good amount of leave time. So, I pushed myself through the day and toughed it out.

The evening was pretty low key. Christian took care of dinner and the girls, and I just relaxed and took it easy. REALLY hoping this all passes soon.

HAPPY LEAP DAY ;) This day officially puts the title of my blog for this year all out of whack!

Well, another day in the saga of the Duran sickness. And, the day in general didn't start off too well. It rained all day and night last night, and then snowed a little bit on top of that. The raods were pretty crappy, and the traffic very slow. The girls didn't sleep well last night, but at least they stayed in their beds!

Amelia was looking a littler better, and back to daycare today. Both girls threw a fit, screaming and crying when I dropped them off this morning. Seriously cannot wait until that ends and they adjust to being dropped off.

Off to work I went. As the day went on, I seemed to be losing my voice. It was actually painful to talk at times. What's next?!? I'll tell you what's next...the phone call, at 11:00, telling us Olivia didn't look well, they were worried about Pink Eye, and we had to pick her up. Ay, just the next issue! Luckily I was able to get her an appointment at the clinic by our house, so off I went. Picked her up, and headed to the clinic. She did look pretty bad when I picked her up, but it's was hard to tell if she had Pink Eye, or if she was just crying and rubbing her eyes too much. The doctor checked her out. Everything looked and sounded good, but she was a little worried about her eye. She actually wasn't convinced it was Pink Eye, and actually thought it was just attached to her cold. She decided to give her some drops since Amelia did have it, just to be on the safe side, but she gave me the impression that she wasn't worried about it.

So, we headed home, and she went down for a nap. She was NOT a fan of her eye drops at all. In fact, you'd pretty much think they were drops of acid the way she reacted. Drama queen. After her nap she was looking a little better, but seemed pretty tired.

We had plans to go to Disney on Ice tonight with my mom...I kept giving her the choice, and [of course] she insisted that she really wanted to see the princesses. I went back and forth on it all day. In the end, I decided that this show would mean the world to her, and we both needed a little cheer. I wasn't really worried about her spreading anything since we weren't going to be playing with anything or touching anything, so we went for it. I'm so glad we did too. We just went back in December, to a different show, and she loved it. This show was actually way better, so I wouldn't been really bummed if we would have missed it. She was pretty tired, but she had a blast, and I could tell it made her feel a little better.

After the show, we headed home. I dropped my mom off, and Olivia passed right out the rest of the way. After another dose of drops, she was passed out for the night. The daycare was really great about it, and is letting us bring her back tomorrow. Typically you are supposed to wait 24 hours after starting their medication - but since she was able to get a full day of doses in, and she'll have another in the morning, they were OK with her coming back in. YAY!

Here are some pics from the day. One of Olivia enjoying some hot chocolate at the Doctor's office, and the rest from the big show. What a day!

2/28/12

Today wasn't too bad. I was home for the day with Amelia since she had to be kept home from daycare. Luckily I planned ahead, and I brought a bunch of work home with me to work on throughout the day - avoid falling too behind, and having to take the entire day off.

Amelia already looks WAY better this morning. She slept well - thank god for quick acting medicine! She actually slept in today. Unfortunately with my own little cold, I wasn't able to sleep and take advantage of that. BUT, at least she was getting her rest. Once she was up, we spent the day hanging out, playing a little, resting a lot and taking our medicine. Party time! She ended up taking a REALLY long nap, giving me plenty of time to get some work done. Christian and Olivia arrived home shortly after Amelia woke up. We ate some dinner, and hung out for a bit. Finally, it was time for baths and bed. Now, let's all just hope nothing passes onto Olivia and we'll be on the mend now!

Here is a cute picture I snapped of Amelia today. That smile I was missing!

2/27/12

Today was a much different day than I initially expected. I have a nice, full blown cold going on. I woke up in the middle of the night, not really able to breath, so I took some Nyquil...then, took some Dayquil this morning. I'm thinking they didn't mix too well, because I was feeling pretty loopy and crappy all morning.

After doing a little searching around, and checking in with my mother in law on Amelia this morning, I decided it would probably be best to take her into Urgent Care after work to get her eyes checked out. I was really worried that she had Pink Eye, but was just hopeful it was something else.

So, after work (a LONG day of work at that), I was off to pick up Amelia, and bring her in. The Urgent Care doctor was pretty convinced that she does indeed have pink eye. In addition, she said her left ear was looking pretty bad, definite ear infection. She was running a slight fever (like she had been on and off all weekend), so she wanted to check for strep, but Amelia was not cooperating with that. She said that her ear infection medication would help if she does have strep, so she wasn't too worried about not getting a good look. So, off to the pharmacy we went, then home to meet Christian and Olivia for dinner, a little play and an early bed time. Hoping with the new medicine and some Tylenol to top it off, we'll have a good night of sleep ahead of us. I know with the Nyquil (taken at a decent time), I sure will!

Here is Olivia'a 19 month photo. It's hard to believe. 19 months (and a day) already. She seems to grow and lean by leaps and bounds every day. She's gaining more words every day, talking more and more. She repeats a lot of what we say, in a much more recognizable manner now. She can say some of the standard stuff - mama, dad, bye-bye, puppy, blue, purple, more, milk. She has a few sentences, "where's daddy", "I want more", "I want milk" are the usuals. She is getting stronger every day, and standing up to Olivia. She is a TOTAL drama queen though. She'll start crying and throwing a fit at the drop of a dime. I think she is going to be a hand full, for sure! My girl, growing up!

2/26/12

Well, today was a pretty good day. The girls and I were all rocking some colds. Hoping they don't get too bad. Olivia ended up in bed with me last night because her cough was out of control. Poor thing. At this point, I really wish we would've had a REAL winter....one that freezes away all of the germs and gross crap! It's been rough already, I don't think we can take another round of sickness. Ick!

After making my mom a "happy birthday" sign, and sending her the picture to brighten up her day, we were off. First up, breakfast at Perkins - always a great start to the day. Then, off to Lowe's to officially order our new carpet. I'm so excited, moving right along!

The rest of the night was pretty low key. The girls went down for a nap when we got home, except Olivia wouldn't actually nap. I started going through their clothes - getting ready to swap out Amelia's closet soon, and trying to clean up the spare bedroom. While I did that, and Amelia napped, Christian and Olivia were off to hang out with his parents for a while and have dinner.

By the time they arrived home, it was time for baths and bed. By the time I went to bed, Amelia had already been up screaming and crying a few times. I think we're in for another long one!

Here are the girls with their Happy Birthday message!
