9/3/11 - Amazing Day

Today was an amazing day, filled with adventure, fun, lots of laughs and many memories made.

The day started off pretty early. The out of town families are not finding a lot of peace in hotel leaving, so they were up and raring to go bright and early. We scarfed down some breakfast, cleaned up and got ready for the day much earlier than we're used to (not that it's not totally worth it). The families arrived at our house, we visited for a little while, packed up all of the kids and were on our way to to State Fair.

We spent a good 6/7 hours there. Wandering around, putting the kids on rides (well, just the big slide for Olivia, of course), eating lots of tasty food and I having a blast getting to know our "new" friends. It was a little chaotic trying to keep such a large group of people together, so we broke apart a few times and did our own thing, which was good. The girls had a great time, eating, people watching. We attempted the Butterfly house...Olivia was terrified, and Amelia wanted to hold them, but obviously she would have crushed them. LOL.

Finally, we were all exhausted, the kid were getting anxious, our feet were aching and our bellies were full...so, we were on our way out.

The other families stopped back to their hotel to rest and clean up for a bit, and the girls went down for a short nap when we got home. The families came back over to our place so we could all spend the evening together. We ordered some pizza, the bigger kids played out in the jump house while the little kids destroyed the house. The adults were engulfed in the show "Hoarders" for a while, which was actually pretty hilarious. The men, and big kid, eventually made their way outside to the fire pit, leaving the mom's and babies time to bond. It was so amazing actually having them in our house, live and in color. I haven't laughed so hard in a LONG time...getting to know each other, watching the "babies" interact and play with each other. It was just such a good feeling hanging out when all of them. It makes me sad to know they'll be leaving tomorrow! Our time together just flew by!

Here are some pictures from our day today. What a great day!

9/2/11 - Welcome, Friends

Today was the big day!!! The day we've been planning for so long...two of my online friends, and their families, came into town for the weekend. I could barely concentrate at work I was so excited. Not that I wasn't nervous as well...I kept worrying that they wouldn't like me "in person", or that I would get nervous and shy when they are here in person, or that we just wouldn't really click in person.

Work went pretty slow...and I ended up leaving a little early to make sure the house was picked up, just in case the families stopped over. When I arrived home, Christian got ready, and ran over to his parents' house. His dad is going to do some work on the snow blower this weekend, so he brought that over. Then, we just waited for word that they families had arrived and were ready to get together.

Well, one of the families, arrived mid afternoon...they are from WAY up north Minnesota, so not quite as far away. They were pretty exhausted when they arrived though, and by the time the other family arrived, from Indiana, they were ready to just pack it in and relax for the night. So, we briefly met up with them to say hi and chat for a little while, then were off to dinner with the Indiana family. The kids were going CRAZY, I'm surprised we didn't get kicked out of the restaurant with all of the laughing, running around and mess making going on!

We got home pretty late and the girls passed right out. We weren't far behind knowing we were in for a long, busy day tomorrow. Dawn (the Indiana mom) snapped this picture of me and the baby girls. It's nice because her little girls is a tiny little thing, just like Amelia, so it was nice to finally see a baby that is the same size a her! LOL

9/1/11 - SKOL Vikings

Today was another hectic, crazy day! I'm getting used to is though. LOL. Christian was feeling much better today, but said it still hurt pretty bad. He slept in for a while this morning, but did manage to go into work, just a little late. So, that's a good sign!

Christian's work friend, Lorenzo, received 4 tickets to tonight's Vikings (pre-season) game, and invited us to go with. YAY, so the fractic search for a sitter and planning went into effect! Luckily my mom didn't have any plans tonight, and agreed to watch the girls. So, I left work a little early, went home to let the dog out, pack a diaper bag and get changed, picked up the girls, picked up Christian and Lorenzo, dropped the girls off at my moms, then we were FINALLY off to the game. We arrived in our seats literally just before kick off, so it ended up being perfect timing. There is so much construction going on in the Dome area, it was crazier than usual trying to get around. Lucky for us, Lorenzo exclaimed that he did NOT want to walk, so he paid for us to park as close as possible...basically right outside the door. YES!

The game was good. Started off slow, but picked up and the Vikings ended up beating the Texans 28-0! The Texans were undefeated in the pre-season too, so it was a pretty good win!

After the game, we had to deal with the much more chaotic drive out of the city. It took us about 35 minutes to drive the 2-3 miles out of the city. HORRIBLE. We picked up the girls, I dropped the boys off back at Lorenzo's house (so Christian could get his truck), got the girls to bed, and the entire house passed out. Christian does not work tomorrow, so I'll be the only one in pain trying to wake up after our late night in the morning!

Here are a few pics from the game.

8/31/11 - Husband Down

Today I just plugged away at my inbox as much as I could. In the end, I didn't even make a dent in it. It's going to be a looooong week or two coming up trying to get through that pile, that's for sure.

Christian had a much rougher day though. Today he started very early, because he had to leave early...to get 2 wisdom teeth pulled. Ouch. I had all 4 taken out a few years ago, so I felt his pain! The surgery went fast, and he was not put under or anything, so he was fine to drive and everything after. So, once the surgery was complete, he picked up his prescriptions, picked up the girls, and came right home to relax for the night. I stopped at Target to grab a handful of things, then ran home to meet them, make some dinner, and attempt to keep the girls our of his hair for the night. Lucky for him, Olivia was very insistent that she watch Dora today, so she watched videos on the computer tonight, while I played with Amelia and Christian relaxed.

Hopefully he'll recover quickly. I know I was virtually back to normal the day after mine were pulled, so hopefully he's as lucky!

We received another fun package today! Some fun headbands! YAY, and I actually got the girls to model them (kind of). Super cute!

8/30/11 - It's Arrived..

...my full, EXPLODING inbox that is. Yes, it's arrived. Through the course of the morning, 29 new requests filled up my inbox. I know that doesn't mean much to most people, because they have no idea what that really means, but take my word for it...it's a ridiculous amount of requests. To get an idea...that brings my total number of current requests to 52, the other administrators in my office have 10, and 15. Yeah, you read that right.

It was very overwhelming at the end of the day to sit there, look at that pile, on top of everything else I have to keep up on, I felt a little panicked. I mean, where do you start? How do you determine which requests are more important that others. And, having that many people to answer to when things don't move quickly, is a scary thought for me. When it comes to work, I am a people pleaser...I have for people to think badly of me, and hate the thought that people may think I'm slacking, or anything like that. Ugh.

After a long, stressful day at work, we had a pretty low key night at home. Christian and the girls ate dinner at his mom's house, so I cleaned the basement, and FINALLY repacked up the girls' clothes. It's always nice to get the disaster of a basement cleaned up and looking fresh again. Ha.

Once they arrived home, we just hung out for the evening. The usual. Yesterday the girls received a package from one of my amazing online friends...some special made blankets. Since we weren't really home, they didn't get to see them, so we opened them up today. They LOVE them! It was so cute to see their reactions. Here are a few pics.

8/29/11 - Monday, Turned into Funday

Today was DEFINITELY a Monday when it came to work. I could barely pry myself out of bed this morning...in fact, I didn't! I slept in for a little while, dropped the girls off late, then headed in to work. It was a much needed late start! In addition to being exhausted, I just know what's in store for me this week, and it was a little overwhelming. Executing that big Contract last week is going to mean a lot, and I mean A LOT of work for me in the next coming weeks. We're 2 months behind on this program, so it's time to play MAJOR catch up. Luckily for me, my supervisor had too much on her plate Friday and today, so the new requests have not reached me yet...which means I had this one last day to catch up on my other stuff.

This afternoon, I got a message from our friend Kelly, inviting us over for pizza and sundae's tonight. Of course, I couldn't pass that up! Christian had to work some OT tonight though, so I ran home after work, let the dog out, did a little picking up around the house, then was off to pick up the girls and head over to meet Christian at the Madrid's. The girls had so much fun together...even Amelia, she's getting in on the friend bonding these days too! It's cute. And baby Niko is getting so big, he's going to be running around with those girls soon too, driving them crazy I'm sure. We ate some pizza, chatted, had some ice cream and spent a fun family night together. It was much needed relaxing fun.

Finally, we were on our way home for the night. The girls passed out shortly after we arrived home, and we were RIGHT behind them. It's fun when Monday takes that surprising turn into a fun day! Here are some pictures from tonight...the girls are far too overactive to take nice, calm pictures. LOL

8/28/11 - Oh, What a Wonderful Day

Today started off like any other Sunday. Well, not exactly, because the girls slept until almost 10:00AM! WHOA! Other than that...we were up, I did some laundry and some dishes, we hung out, ate some breakfast, watched a little TV, did some playing. Then it was time to get ready...today was a very exciting day...wedding dress shopping with the BFF! I'm not a HUGE wedding person, but I'm so excited for her, and was very excited to help her choose the perfect dress.

Olivia and I met up with her, her mom and her sisters at the bridal shop, and we got to it. She tried on several dresses, and we ended up finding her the PERFECT dress. It's fun, young, unique and totally her. I just love it, it's going to be so amazing! Olivia tried on a few flower girl dresses, and we agreed on a style for her, but I need to do some shopping around and see if we can find it somewhere else. We thought we'd found our bridesmaid dresses too, but she ended up changing her mind, and didn't like it in the end, so back to the drawing board there!

While Olivia and I were off doing that. Amelia took a nice long nap, and Christian took to the lawn work. I think the grass cutting was quite overdue this time around, so it was definitely time. Then, it was time for some dinner and a relaxing evening. So, that's a big "check" for another great, fun filled weekend! Back to the grind tomorrow!

Here are a couple snaps of Olivia trying on dresses.

8/27/11 - Off to the Ren Fest!

Today was a pretty fun day!

Christian worked this morning, so it was just me and the girls. They were quite a handful last night, and that carried right on through to this morning. I swear, I was breaking up fights and taking toys away ALL morning long. Let's just say, it was a loooong morning. While I was taking a shower, Chuy got out of the yard and ran away. Luckily our neighbor found him (like usual), so I was off to retrieve him. I came back into the house to find BOTH girls standing at the bottom of the stairs waiting for me. Olivia can get the gate open, so she must have come down trying to chase after me and left it open. Apparently Amelia can get down the stairs no problem now...who knew?!? I asked Olivia how she got down, and she assured me that she crawled down on her belly...let's just hope that's the truth.

Finally, Christian was home. I got the girls ready while he showered and got ready, then we were on our way to meet the Madrid's at the Renaissance Festival. The girls had SO much fun watching all of the people and seeing all of the crazy costumes. We all had a great time walking around and taking it all in. Hopefully next year we can get there earlier so we can enjoy more of it, but it was a good time nonetheless.

We headed home at closing, ate some dinner and stayed in for the rest of the night. Our friend Nixon stopped over to hang out with Christian for a while and help fix something on the computer. And, that was about it.

Here are some pictures from the festival, much fun!

8/26/11 - 13 Months!

It's so hard to believe...my baby is not only one, but she's 13 months old! Which means summer is definitely coming to an end soon. It's bittersweet. I love winter, but summer is so much more compatible with kids!

Amelia is doing great these days. It's obvious that she really understands what we're saying now, and she's following direction well. If we ask her to do something, or prompt her to do something, she usually will. Or, at least show that she understands us. She's trying so hard to talk, she wants to so badly. She is learning where we keep things...for example, if she wants milk, she'll go sit by the fridge and yell for us. So, she's definitely learning how to communicate with us.

She still has 8 teeth, no new ones popping though yet. She's still getting a bottle of warmed milk before nap and bed, which I hope to break soon. She still pretty much just says mom, mama, dada and more...she appears to say baba and bubbles. She is REALLY working on her hand/eye coordination these days. She's learning to put the rings on the stick and put shapes into the shape sorter with little help. She is so far beyond walking it's not even funny...she just runs and runs, there is no stopping her. She's really getting into dancing these days, which is pretty entertaining to watch.

She is wearing Size 3 diapers now, and is about 1/2 6-9 month clothes and 1/2 9-12 month. She's learning to use utensils. She's not great at it, but she is learning. She is still in her infant carseat, I'm thinking we'll get another month or two out of it. But, if I get our gift card soon, we might just switch her anyway.

Amelia is becoming VERY strong willed. She's standing up for herself more and more, she won't just roll over for anybody. She throws full on tantrums, feet stomping and all when she doesn't get her way. I think she is unfortunately picking up some bad habits from Olivia...hitting, throwing things, some of the more violent outbursts, and we're not sure what to do about that. I think it's inevitable, but we'll see if we can get BOTH of them to learn how to play nice and gentle.

Today was a pretty low key day. The girls and I ate some breakfast quick when they woke up, then we were off with my mom to look at an apartment. She ended up really liking it, so I'm thinking her search for a new living space is over! After that, we all ate some lunch, the girls went down for a nice LONG nap, and I relaxed for a while. The evening from there was pretty low key. When Christian arrived home, we ate some dinner and hung out for the night. He is working some OT in the morning, so it was a pretty early night for all of us (you know, versus the party animals we usually are).

Here is Amelia's 13 month photo (she's not into cooperating these days).

8/25/11 - Draaaging

Today I was dragging, for sure. I don't know why, but I was just absolutely exhausted. I had to peel myself out of bed...extremely late...this morning. Sure, yesterday was a busy day, but I guess I didn't realize how much. It didn't help that Amelia woke up around 4:00 this morning. Boo, I forgot how horrible that was. Seriously, the minute your baby starts sleeping through the night, you forget how horrible the not sleeping through the night is. Honestly, I'm not even sure who woke who up. Olivia was crying because she had to go to the bathroom. When I went in to escort her, Amelia was standing there, and started crying as soon as she saw me. So, we did what I've been fighting for a while...gave her a bottle of milk to get her back to sleep. I try with all my might to keep bottles strictly for before bed and before naps...but we needed that last little bit of sleep, and she didn't eat great last night, so she needed the calories.

On that topic, I'm really wanting to get Amelia off the bottle. Right around this time, Olivia was done. But, she was better about getting herself to sleep at this point. Amelia still needs that comfort before sleep, and I don't know how to break her of it. I just know, I hate the bottle, and I can't wait until she's done!

I was busy as usual at work, and I'm finally getting some time throughout the day to get some of that "busy" not-so-fun work done. It's not REALLY fun, but it is necessary. I did get a BIG contract with the U of M executed today though, which opens the flood gates to a lot more contracts, so I'm going to be beyond swamped next week, and it scares me a little.

After work, I did the dishes and made dinner. We all sat down, chatted and ate a yummy spaghetti dinner, then proceeded to play the night away. We did get a sneak peak at the girls' paint pictures from last night, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! You can check out our photographers blog here to see them. Can't wait to see the rest, along with the every day family pics that we did.

I didn't take any pictures today. But here is one from a year ago...my tiny baby!
