2013 - Week 19

Well, this week brought us a little more illness, a lot more great weather (and a quick cold snap - but no snow, so that's promising...), conference for the girls and Mother's Day fabulousness!

Monday started off a little rocky. Olivia was still pretty exhausted, my car was out of commission and I missed my little BFF after she spent the night at Grandma's. Christian drove me to work, and it was a typical, long, busy Monday. I got to leave a little early to get a ride home by  my Mom. Christian and the girls hung out at his parents house so he and his dad could work on the car. They are SURE they found the problem this time, and it required a part from the dealership. But, they managed to find it, replace it and get the car up and running. Let's hope this keeps us going for a while now. I still need a good  year out of this car! And, it gave me the house to myself for a while - which is always a welcomed event. By the time everybody arrived home, Olivia seemed to be doing much better by the end of the day, no fever or any signs of it. And, Amelia was so excited to see me, it warmed my heart. By the end of the day, life was back to normal, who could ask for anything more?!?

Tuesday was pretty standard. Work went well. Christian is still putting in as much overtime as possible, so it makes for some very long days for him. But, that will all pay off in time, that's for sure. When the girls and I arrived home, we brought out all of our new t-ball stuff and started hitting some balls. They both thought it was pretty cool, so hopefully it's something that will stick. I'd love to see my girls follow in my softball footsteps! I think next payday we'll splurge on a soccer ball and net....gotta make daddy happy too!

Wednesday was a pretty low key day. Work was work, school was school. We had conferences for the girls at school tonight...Christian wasn't able to make it this time with his work being so busy, so it was just me. It was Amelia'a last Toddler conference, just to see how she was doing. Her teachers are sad to see her go. They love her patience and her "teacher's pet" attitude. She's always up for anything, and loves to help out. They are amazed at how well her transition went when she started, and how easily she's transitioning into the Preschool room. They can't believe how quickly she potty trained and how adaptive she is to everything. She's doing great with her letters, numbers and shapes, and has fully mastered everything for her age. So exciting! Olivia is, of course, a shining star in Preschool. Her teacher just loves her and admires her independence. She always listens and is the first to take on any task. She sees everything through and works hard on her projects. She's smart, ambitious and a social butterfly to boot. She loves all of the other kids and plays so well with them. She has also mastered everything at her level, and is very excited about moving up to Pre-Kindergarten next month. I'm so proud of them both - they are little rockstars, that's for sure! After conferences, we stopped at the store. We picked up some "good job" cupcakes to celebrate, and some flowers for Amelia's teachers - a little "going away" gift because tomorrow will be her final day transitioning to the Preschool room. We made our way home, started dinner and baked some cookies for "teacher appreciation  week. Finally, we wrote out some "thank you" notes, and called it a night. The girls couldn't wait to deliver all of their goodies in the morning!

Thursday was a big day in Minnesota history. The senate passed the "Freedom to Marry" bill, which will allow same-sex couples to marry in the state. Seeing that just this past fall there was an Amendment up for vote to actually amend the state's constitution to formally ban same-sex marriage (which, thankfully, was voted down), Minnesota has come a long way in just a year or so. Next week the House will debate and vote on the bill, and if passed (which, it is expected to), the Governor has already said he'll sign it into law. Fingers crossed, we'll have equality for all next week! Other than that, today was pretty ordinary. Olivia has some spots in her mouth again - not nearly as bad as the last outbreak, but she's pretty miserable. We're starting to doubt the last "virus" theory, and we're starting to think this might be an allergy thing. We're going to let it play out, and then start tracking what she eats to see if there's any correlation. Poor thing.

Some Beautiful Weather Shots...Before Our Weekend Cold Snap Hits.

Friday turned out to be much more exciting than anticipated. Well, it started off pretty depressing to start - officially entering the last month of my 20's. Wow, it's hard to believe I'll be 30 a month from today. Crazy. Other than that, it was a pretty standard day...the girls were off to my mom's, we were off to work. Ugh, a 5-day work week - hate those! The day at work flew by pretty fast. I took a long lunch and drove out to the KDWB Studio to pick up our Star Party tickets. Can't wait! I got a surprise text from our friend Sara (Bella's mom), asking if I'd like to go to the Twins Game with her. In the end, Christian agreed to come home in time, and watch Bella until her dad got off work, so we could go. So exciting! I rushed to pick up the girls from my mom's, and home to get ready. Sara arrived to pick me up and we were on our way. We got to the game a little before it started, so we grabbed some dinner and drinks, took our seats and settled in. The Twins were up 6-0 at one point, but ended up losing the game in extra innings. Boo! It started raining just as we left the game, so that was perfect timing. In the end, we had a great time. Lots of laughs, a fun game in an awesome stadium (I can't get enough of it!)...a much needed night out. So fun! Christian was on dad duty all night, his friend Lorenzo came over to help out and grill. Everybody survived...Christian and the girls were passed out by the time I got home, so I followed suit.

Saturday was a pretty long, but very fun day. Christian was off to work, so I spent the day with the girls. Well - they spent the morning playing and doing whatever their little hearts desired. I spent the morning cleaning, cleaning and cleaning some more. I attempted to get as much of my weekend chores done today as possible, in hopes of a more relaxing Mother's Day tomorrow. I did have to take a break to run to swim class, but after a quick lunch when we got home, the girls were down for their naps and I finished up my cleaning. I didn't get a chance to tackle the basement, but at least I got the main level clean and ready for visitors. When Christian arrived home from work, we watched a little TV together, and then got ready for the evening. After naps, we were off to my best friends house for a "long time no see" BBQ with her husband and son, and another family. I'd been battling a headache all day, but I was way too excited to hangout and catch up to pass up on the opportunity. The other family had 3 little boys and the girls had a BLAST playing with all of the boys. They were in heaven. The men grilled, drank some beer and hung out. We mom's chatted around the kitchen table, laughing and swapping mom stories. It was truly a perfect evening, something I wish could happen WAY more often! We finally made our way home, way, WAY past bedtime, and the girls went right down. Christian and I caught some Saturday Night Live and passed out ourselves. What a great day!

I didn't take any pictures tonight, but I snapped this one of the girls, sporting the boys' nerf gun glasses. Too funny.

Sunday was Mother's Day. And, it was truly an amazing Mother's Day at that...by far, the best one yet. Christian brought the girls downstairs as soon as they woke up, so I got to sleep in a little. When I woke up, the girls came running upstairs, and presented me with some homemade cards they'd made with Christian. They were so excited, it was too cute. Then, Christian surprised me with a beautiful charm bracelet, with a mom and child pendant on it. I've wanted a charm bracelet for every, I just love it! He made me my favorite breakfast, chorizo and eggs with beans on the side. YUM! After breakfast, Christian was off to the store to pick up some flowers for his mom, and surprised me with a bouquet of my own. WOW! When he was done, I made a run to the grocery store with Olivia to pick up Mother's Day BBQ necessities, and got my mom an orchid while I was out. The girls napped when we got home, and Christian and I got ready for the evening. We started prepping for the BBQ, our parents and friends started showing up, the girls were up from their nap, and it was time for relaxing, playing and catching up with everybody. It was such a great evening, just what we all needed. It was really a great cap on a wonderful week, that's for sure!

So, there's another week of our lives. Until next week!

2013 - Week 18

Here's to another week! This was a pretty low-key week, but it did bring us a pretty exciting milestone for Amelia!

On Monday, I got to sport some open-toed shoes to work! YES!! I don't care what anybody things, after this winter, that's noteworthy! Especially since we're heading for another winter-weather advisory on Wednesday - WINTER-weather advisory, on May 1st. W-T-F. I also scored a a couple buy-on-get-one free deals on wristbands to Como Town (the little amusement park attached to one of our zoo's) for the summer - love me a good deal! Other than that, it was Monday as usual...work, kids to the in-laws, home for some dinner, play, baths and bed. Pretty exciting!

Open-Toes!

It's Official - see tomorrow's recap :)

Tuesday brought us Amelia's latest milestone - she is officially transitioning to the Preschool room at KinderCare. She's visited a couple times, but they're hoping to have her completely transitioned in the next two weeks. CRAZY - we officially have two preschoolers, I can't believe it! Olivia should still be moving up to pre-kindergarten this summer...I'm just hoping they can survive a couple months together! I left work a couple hours early. I was developing a headache all day long, and just couldn't take working on the computer with it any longer. I stopped into Target quick to pick up a couple necessities, got my workout in (yes, even with a headache...I'm NOT getting derailed!) and picked the girls up. Christian didn't get home from work until really late, so it was just the girls and I, leftovers for dinner and some QT with the iPad. Amelia did have me laughing pretty hard tonight. I was sitting on the couch with the girls, and Amelia snuggled right up next to me. I sarcastically asked her if she "had enough room" and she says "No, I need more room for my elbows...I need more elbow room!" (elbow space). It was the funniest thing - I can't even remember saying that to her, but she picked it up somewhere, and it's hilarious. As much as they can drive me absolutely CRAZY, man do they make me laugh.

Amelia's First Day of Preschool!

Olivia broke out the sidewalk chalk and wrote her name - for some reason, she's obsessed with writing backwards. I don't get it...

On Wednesday...IT happened again. Snow. Snow, snow, snow. Ugh. So over it. I cured my winter blues with some more deal buys online - a ProFlowers living social deal (YAY for Mother's Day deals!) AND, my next workout on babysteals. So excited. The very first workout series I did was Moms into Fitness "60 Day Slimdown"...the one I'm doing now is another Moms into Fitness program "Pretty Fierce: Weight Loss". I love this trainer and her programs so much, I'm obsessed. Her Pretty Fierce program was featured again today, so I snagged the next one in the series, "Lean Out". I think I'll end up doing another round of Weight Loss first, but I'm super excited! I LOVE these deal sites! That was pretty much the highlight of my day.

Playing with the Sock Puppets they made with Dad...

Thursday was my Friday, and it couldn't have come sooner! It's been a good week, but work has just been kicking my butt. Everything is so crazy and such a rush, it's exhausting! Our scanner was out all day today, and I was seriously about to go "Office Space" on it. Yes, "Friday" was very welcomed. When the girls and I arrived home, they decided to help themselves to some peanut putter toast...seriously, I don't even know where they come up with this stuff. They got themselves some bread, popped it in the toaster, gathered up some peanut butter and a butter knife, and Olivia served it out. Wow. I guess I should be happy their self-sufficient?

The girls, helping themselves to a snack...

Some cat "cuddles" before bed.

The girls were up bright and early on Friday, what's new! Christian was off to work, and the snow was coming down like crazy. I didn't even know it was supposed to snow today. Lame. I did a little cleaning, paid some bills and did our checkbooks. I got my workout in and the girls and I hung out - played some games, watched some TV and relaxed a bit. Gotta love the "weekend"! During naps, I caught up on some pinning - I haven't been on Pinterest forever...and, I can tell you, we'll be hitting some outdoor projects for sure this summer. I want us (probably meaning Christian, and my dad, LOL) to build a tree bench, get a vegetable garden going, and I'd love to lay down a brick/rock path to the firepit, and build an underground firepit. And, of course, get our plants going again. However, this all hinges on summer actually showing up at some point, so I guess we'll see what happens there! Our evening was pretty low key. Christian brought home some takeout for dinner, so we all hung out, ate, and had some family time. Since he works Saturday's now, it's usually a pretty early night for us.

This is how I found the girls this morning...in the 3 minutes it took me to get up and put my contacts in after they woke up, they helped themselves to some pringles and snuggled up with the iPad. The dynamic duo struck again!

This is how we felt about the snow this morning...luckily the rain that followed washed it all away.

Playing in the Rain

"Our" Ducks were out Playing the Rain too!

Saturday was a pretty good day. The girls definitely tested some boundaries throughout the day, but overall, we survived. We watched a little TV, had some breakfast...the usual. They played in their playroom while I got my workout in, showered and got ready for the day. Then, we were off! First, Olivia's swim class. I got her mid-session "report card", and I was a little disappointed. I'm pretty sure she's doing worse than she did last session - how is that even possible?!? BUT, it seemed like today's class was better - she was front floating way better than she ever has before, even putting her face under water, so I guess that's progress. After class, we were off to Target. I had to pick up a gift for a baby shower tomorrow, and some other goodies. I got myself some heavier hand weights for my program, I got Olivia a bike helmet, in anticipation of moving her to two-wheel's this summer, and finally got her a t-ball, bat and tee to start practicing for t-ball next year. I'm pretty sure I'm way more excited than her, but whatever, I can't wait! We got a couple other goodies, grabbed some lunch and made our way home, just as Christian was arriving home from work. We ate and the girls went right down for their naps...Christian followed suit, while I caught up on some Hulu. I seriously don't know what I would do without naptime - it's so amazing! After naps, Olivia wanted to try out her new helmet, and the sun finally made an appearance, so we played outside for a little while. I made some dinner, and Christian was off to watch the Mayweather fight with some friends. Once the girls were in bed, I did some blogging, played on the computer for a while and enjoyed the peace and quiet of an empty house. How wonderful!

Trying out her new helmet and bell!

Sunday did not go quite as expected. At all really. Sunday was supposed to be a day of working in the yard, trying out the new t-ball set, getting my usual chores done, and attending a baby shower for my cousin's wife.  However, that is not how the day played out. Yesterday, my car was sounding pretty bad again - basically, it sounds like an airplane taking off every time I stop or take off. It's done it before, and it's not pretty. So, Christian had to spend the day changing the brakes and a rotar...again. Obviously we realize there is something else wrong, actually causing them to go bad. So, he and his dad will be trying to figure that out in the next week or so. In the meantime, my car is out of commission, and that's not a good thing. Also, Olivia started the day off complaining that she didn't feel well. But, every time we'd ask what hurt, what's wrong - she just said "I don't know". Eventually, she rushed off to the bathroom to throw up. She was also running a 102+ fever along with it, so she was definitely in a rough spot. She spent the rest of the day on the couch, with a cooling patch on and a couple doses of medicine. Poor thing. So, I was starting to panic a little bit. I eventually got in touch with my mom, and she offered to watch Olivia while Amelia and I went to the baby shower. Whew! So, I quickly did my usual chores...dishes and kitchen/entry clean up, showered...we got ready, and we were on our way after my mom showed up. The shower was fun - it was nice spending time with my family, and I'm a big fan of shower games, so I always have a blast. Christian arrived home with my car just before Amelia and I got home. Olivia was still not doing too hot and it breaks my heart to see them like that. Christian took Amelia off to his parents house for the night...they had our nieces for the weekend, so both of the girls were supposed to go spent the night there and hang out with them. Unfortunately for Olivia, that didn't pan out. Amelia was off and very excited though. Olivia and I hung out - she finally ate a little bit and seemed to be on the mend - it's hard to tell if that medication induced, or reality though. Hopefully in the morning she'll be right as rain, and it will have all been a fluke. In the end, I got some chores done, about half of the laundry done, and we didn't get to enjoy the nice weather at all. So sad!

My Poor Baby! I have this part of parenthood...

Amelia entertained herself quite well while we catered to Olivia this morning. I was quite impressed! Here she is, enamored with the Mickey Train...

Ending the day on a happier note - looking better!

The mom-to-be! Awwww :)

So, there ends another week. Some twists and turns along the week, but we made it! It's looking like we're actually in for some spring weather in the upcoming week, which is pretty exciting. YAY!
